I graduated from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, in 2007. I then worked for NHS Tayside in community clinics before returning to Orkney where I work privately & also for NHS Orkney as a locum. I also hold regular clinics in Inverness at Therapy 1st.
As part of my continuing professional development I attend courses regularly; my particular interest lies in muscular & biomechanical (alignment) problems. I have a certificate in local anaesthesia and a Prescription of Medicine (Poms) certificate which means I can supply certain types of antibiotics for toe infections.
In my own work I tend to see a mixture of routine patients, and those with muscular pain & biomechanical problems. I use friction, massage and taping techniques and supply & make orthotic insoles. I use manipulation on the foot for bones that are slightly out of place and provide guidance on exercises to treat a range of foot problems. I will refer patients on to other Practitioners and liaise with G.Ps when appropriate, as patients may need more than one specialism to treat a problem.
